Safety assessment

A pre/post feeding-trial comparison of hematology (CBC) and serum chemistry biomarkers, quantified into a Safety Score that combines reference-range deviation and rate-of-change scoring.

What we measure

CBC

  • WBC
  • RBC
  • HCT
  • Hb
  • MCV
  • MCH
  • MCHC
  • PLT

Serum chemistry

  • Albumin
  • ALP
  • ALT
  • AST
  • Total Bilirubin
  • BUN
  • Creatinine
  • Glucose
  • Cholesterol
  • Triglyceride
  • Na
  • K
  • Cl
  • P
  • Ca

Clinical observation

  • Body weight
  • Appetite
  • Behavior
  • GI events (vomiting, diarrhea)

Study design

Animals
Minimum 4
Duration
4 weeks (1-week adaptation + 3-week test diet)
Sampling
Baseline at D-1, terminal at D-29

Methodology

Reference-range deviation score and rate-of-change score are computed in parallel; the lower of the two is taken per biomarker for a conservative posture. Clinically critical biomarkers (Hb, HCT, Albumin, ALP) carry a weight of 2.
